Cowgirl Up!

Cowgirl Up!

When this California beach bunny met my Canadian Cowboy, it was like “John Wayne meets California Bling queen” two different worlds collided.  My idea of a rancher’s wife was somewhere between “Dolly Parton” and the television show “Dallas.”  In my world if you were dressed for the occasion you could do any the job.

My new husband sent me out to get some cowboy boots and jeans. I guess he didn’t think the go-go boots and hot pants would work! Lol

I was excited to go shopping, after all I liked the boots “Dolly” wore with beautiful design’s, colors and sparkles.  Now to find the perfect boot, which in my mind I thought should be both fashionable and practical.  I couldn’t wait to see Lyle’s face when I brought them home.

Modeling my new 3-inch-heeled cowgirl boots and seeing the look on Lyle’s face, I knew he wasn’t as appreciative of the boots as I was.  I think it was somewhere between bursting out into gales of laughter and I can’t believe it!

Obvious His Idea of a good boot was not the same as mine! When I bought them I thought they were cute, and they made me look taller and slimmer.  (I didn’t realize that in a pen of cattle and manure, the 3-inch-heel height and color doesn’t matter.) I continued to wear those boots, hoping eventually to start a fad among the other ranchers wife’s. However that did not happened, practicality comes first.  Who knew?

As you can imagine, my husband couldn’t understand my reasoning for those boots. My dress-for-success view in the ranch-clothing department didn’t help my job approval ratings at home and outside either. When I helped outside and the gates for the cattle needed to be open, I had them closed.  When the gates needed to be shut to keep then in, I had them open. When the cattle came running, I just ran, too. Besides, have you ever tried running in 3-inch cowgirl boots?

My poor husband finally told me that he was afraid I would get hurt outside. He thought I should either find someone else to help, something else to do or get a hobby. I felt like had failed in the ranch hand department.

I don’t know why we as women feel the need to be super-women. Is it because of the expectations of the world, our peers and the media that pushes us toward perfection?

Only God knows the secret longings of our hearts. He knows all about our unfulfilled desires and dreams, feelings of loneliness and fears for the future. He alone knows our joy and pain, successes, failures, and doubts. He knows everything about us, inside and out, past, present and future.  And yet, when He looks at us through His eyes He thinks we are already perfect, He made us.

Psalms 139: 15-18

15 You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb.                                                       16 You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.

17 How precious are your thoughts about me, O God.They cannot be numbered!
18 I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me!

Thank You for sharing your time with me today, I appreciate you.  Why do you think we strive to be super-women?  Is it our culture, the world we live in or the media? Let me know what you think, I would love to know if you feel the same.

Lovingly, Karan

Ahhhh, you are lovely just the way you are Karan! Somehow it took me not being able to wear make-up for almost 3 years to get a handle on what this really means! Thanks for the chuckles. JJ
