Happy Flying ~ The Plan

“Happy Flying”

A plane was taking off from Kennedy Airport. After it reached a comfortable cruising altitude, the captain made an announcement over the intercom, ‘Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. Welcome to Flight Number 293, nonstop from New York to Los Angeles. The weather ahead is good and, therefore, we should have a smooth and uneventful flight. Now sit back and relax… OH, MY GOSH!’

Silence followed, and after a few minutes, the captain came back on the intercom and said, ‘Ladies and Gentlemen, I am so sorry if I scared you earlier. While I was talking to you, the flight attendant accidentally spilled a cup of hot coffee in my lap. You should see the front of my pants!’

A passenger in Coach yelled, ‘That’s nothing. You should see the back of mine!’ Author unknown

Reflections: The Plan

Restlessness is characteristic of our generation today. In these days of confusion and turmoil from life’s activities, we hardly have time to enjoy our blessings. That has certainly been true of my life.

Some days in the throes of discouragement, I have doubted God’s concern and care for me. Especially when He has so many others to take care of besides me. Do you ever doubt God’s plan?

When life is hectic, we become preoccupied with ourselves, our circumstances and can soon forget about our friends, family, and God.

What a shame, God is the only one who can bring rest and peace in the midst of all the craziness.

Over the years, there have been hard lessons to learn, But God in his great love has shown me that the things I valued most, are not as important as the people in my life or my relationship with Him.

Especially, when faced with the fact there may not be any tomorrows left. It is funny how fast our priorities can change. Suddenly spending time with God and talking to him seems more important than all my busy-ness for him.

Jesus knows about all of the activity in our lives because he made us. He also knows that we need times of rest both—Physically and spiritually.

“Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give peace to you as the world gives.

Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid. ~ John 14:27

He is the only source for perfect peace and complete rest for our souls, especially at these busy times of the year. You are loved and special to Him. ©

Freckles and Wrinkled Beauty

Freckles and Wrinkled Beauty

An elderly woman and her little grandson, whose face was sprinkled with bright freckles, spent the day at the zoo. Lots of children were waiting in line to get their cheeks painted by a local artist who was decorating them with tiger paws.

“You’ve got so many freckles, there’s no place to paint!” a girl in the line said to the little fella.

Embarrassed, the little boy dropped his head. His grandmother knelt down next to him. “I love your freckles. When I was a little girl I always wanted freckles, she said, while tracing her finger across the child’s cheek. “Freckles are beautiful!”

The boy looked up, “Really?”

“Of course,” said the grandmother. “Why, just name me one thing that is prettier than freckles.”

The little boy thought for a moment, peered intensely into his grandma’s face, and softly whispered, “Wrinkles.” ~ Author unknown

Where Are your Teeth? ~

Three hours past our planned departure time, my husband, Lyle, and I, along with our two teenage daughters, were finally pulling away from our southern Alberta home.  We were on our way to the State Fair in Great Falls, Montana, but the way our car was packed, it seemed like we were off on a world tour.

I was looking forward to six days of rest.  No cooking, no early mornings, and plenty of my favorite hobby—retail therapy. We had a poolside room, and our girls were ready to find their swimsuits and head for the water.  However, my husband (the practical one) decided we would have a relaxing supper first before the swimming suits came out of the suitcases and everyone went in all different directions.

After a delicious Mexican dinner, I hurried back to our room because I had something stuck under my upper partial plate. As I rushed into the powder room, I took out my “two front teeth” and laid them on a tissue next to the sink.   After I had brushed my teeth, I wiped off the counter, threw the paper and tissue into the toilet, and flushed.

I turned around to get my teeth and put them back in, but they were nowhere in sight.  I ran around the hotel room crying, praying, and hoping that I would find those teeth, but in my heart, I knew they were gone—flushed—adios—good-bye.

My family returned to find me flustered and crying.  They were concerned, but before I told them what happened to my poor teeth, I made each one promise not to laugh. It did not help one bit.  By the end of my story, they were rolling with laughter and asking to see my toothless smile, which only brought more uncontrolled laughter.   I decided right there my vacation was over.

I wanted to go right home. I told my family I certainly could not be expected to spend the rest of the week without my two front teeth. “Oh yes you can,” my husband said.  “All you have to do is keep your mouth shut, and no one will know.” (Now why didn’t I think of that?)

I spent the week more quietly than usual.  When I sometimes forgot myself or was carried away with the fun and laughter, my teenagers would lovingly point at their teeth to remind me that mine were still missing.   However, after the first few days, I forgot about my teeth and had a fun, memorable vacation.

Just think of what we would have missed as a family if I had carried out my plan to go home because of pride and concern about how I looked. My daughter said we were making memories, and she was right.  Now that my daughters are grown women, we remember our vacation with great fondness. In Proverbs 11:2 (NIV)   It says,

When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.”

How often do we miss opportunities God plans for us because of our selfish pride?

Dear Father Forgive me for my selfish pride. Help me not to miss the good things in life you want to give me because I am thinking only of myself. Help me to put you first.

Have you ever experienced vacation mishaps?

Thank you, dear friends, for spending your time with me.
Have a wonderful weekend.

You May Live In Canada If…

You may live in Canada if:

If you’ve worn shorts and a parka at the same time.

If you’ve had a lengthy telephone conversation with someone who dialed a wrong number.

If you measure distance in hour

If driving is better in the winter because the potholes are filled with snow.

If you have switched from ‘heat’ to ‘A/C’ In the same day and back again.

If you can drive 56 miles/hr. through 2 feet of snow during a raging blizzard without flinching.

If you carry jumper cables in your car, and your wife knows how to use them.

If you design your kid’s Halloween costume to fit over a snowsuit.

If the speed limit on the highway is 50 miles/hr. and you’re going 60 and everybody is passing you.

If you know all 4 seasons:
Almost winter, winter, still winter, and road construction.

If you have more miles on your snow blower than your car.

If you find -2oF degrees ‘a little chilly’. author unknown

Canadian Happy for Spring

Reflections: Happy Birthday!

Who would have ever believed a California Girl would turn in her flip-flops for a pair of cowboy boots and the lure of the Alberta Prairies? When this California beach bunny met a handsome Canadian Cowboy, it was like “John Wayne meets California Bling Queen” two different worlds collided.  I still love my boots, but I haven’t given up the flip-flops either.  You might say I’m a little bit country, however there is still a dash of Bling even after all these years.

When I moved to Canada, I found some cultural  differences, but the people were friendly and forgiving as I made mistakes. They were always willing to give me advice, help and a warm listening ear.  I cherish the friends and family who made my transition in a new country a fun journey.

So “Happy Birthday Canada” today is your day.  July 1, 1867, one-hundred and fifty years ago. You became a nation, and what a beautiful, welcoming country you are.

What a joy and a privilege to be blessed with such a magnificent heritage of living and being a part of two countries where freedom  is valued.

They say “Freedom is never free,” but there is always a price.  I am humbled and honored to thank the brave soldiers who fight for my freedoms. Thank You.©

Exercising for Seniors ~ Directions Please?

Exercising for Seniors

Begin by standing on a comfortable surface, where you have plenty of room at each side.

With a 5-lb potato bag in each hand, extend your arms straight out from your sides and hold them as long as you can, then relax.
Each day you’ll find you can hold this position longer. Try to reach a full minute.

After a couple of weeks, move up to 10-lb potato bags and then 50-lb potato bags. Eventually, you will be able to lift 100-lb potato bags and hold your arms straight for a full minute. (I’m at this level now).

After you feel confident at that level, put a potato in each bag.

Reflections: Directions Please?

When spring and summer arrive the planning for vacations and extra traveling is exciting. I love road trips and if I get lost, O’ well it’s a new adventure. However, Lyle likes to stick to the plan with no variations. My husband also does not like to ask for directions, he thinks if he keeps driving we will eventually get there.

While, I have been known to roll the window down at a stop light, and holler at the person next to me about directions.  I was inquiring about directions with the lady next to us, the light changed, we took off down the road, the lady hung out the window of her car and handed me her map, waved and was gone.My husband was so embarrassed, “ I could have found it.” He said I assured him that our vacation was not that long!!!

Why are men and women’s driving directions so different?

If a man gives directions, it goes like this; Go three miles, turn left, go seven miles, turn right, then go a quarter of a mile and you will see it on your right, you can’t miss it! Now I am blonde and a creative thinker, is there a three-mile sign, how will I know? With these directions I could end up in someone’s cow pasture, never to be seen again.

I drive by landmarks, go to Target, turn left, go down to the Dairy Queen, and turn right. Drive to Starbucks, turn into parking lot, the place is right next to the shoe store that is having a huge sale, 70% off. You can’t miss it. (Now that is my kind of directions)

Thankfully we decided to get a GPS for the car, saves Lyle and I a lot of time, him from driving all over the country trying to find an address, and me from getting lost. However, in my creative moments, I have been known, to second guess the GPS system, and go a different way because it didn’t look right to me. Only to get lost, have the satellite locate me and turn me around.

It gives me great security and peace in my life to know that I am never off of God’s radar system. He always knows where I am, and even if I wander off, his eye on me. ©  The Bible says:

Psalm 139:16 NLT

You saw me before I was born.
Every day of my life was recorded in your book.
Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.

To know that God saw me and knew me before I was born and loved me, and has recorded the number of the days of my life in His book. Gives me the freedom to trust Him and not to worry, because my days are in His hands.  His loving care sustains, guides, and protects me; I just need to follow his directions. ©

THE BBQ RULES~ Singing My Song

THE BBQ RULES

I laughed my mascara and eyeliner off.   I hope you enjoy the “Rules” too.

We are about to enter the summer and BBQ season. Therefore it is important to refresh your memory on the etiquette of this sublime outdoor cooking activity, as it’s the only type of cooking a ‘real’ man will do, probably because there is an element of danger involved.

When a man volunteers to do the BBQ the following chain of events are put into motion:

 Routine..

(1) The woman buys the food.
(2) The woman makes the salad, prepares the vegetables, and makes dessert.
(3) The woman prepares the meat for cooking, places it on a tray along with the necessary cooking utensils and sauces, and takes it to the man who is lounging beside the grill – cold drink in hand.

 Here comes the important part:

(4) THE MAN PLACES THE MEAT ON THE GRILL.

 More routine….

(5) The woman goes inside to organize the plates and cutlery.
(6) The woman comes out to tell the man that the meat is burning. He thanks her and asks if she will bring another cold drink while he deals with the situation.

 Important again:

(7) THE MAN TAKES THE MEAT OFF THE GRILL AND HANDS IT TO THE WOMAN.
(8) The woman prepares the plates, salad, bread, utensils, napkins, sauces, and brings them to the table.
(9) After eating, the woman clears the table and does the dishes.

 And most important of all:

(10) Everyone PRAISES the MAN and THANKS HIM for his cooking efforts

(11) The man asks the woman how she enjoyed ‘her night off.’ And, upon seeing her annoyed reaction, concludes that there’s just no pleasing some women.  Author unknown

Reflections:  Singing My Song

Living on the ranch in Tilley, AB Canada was an incredible experience for me. When out first daughter was born, it was great fun to have grandma and grandpa Gleddie living so close.

Every day she would go out to the ranch yard to see the animals.  She loved them all so much it was only natural that we would practice and learn “Ole Mac Donald Had a Farm.”  She also learned “Jesus loves me at Sunday school.”

We wanted to surprise Grandma and Grandpa with the singing talents of their first grandchild.  And surprise them we did!

One Saturday we all rode to town for our weekly groceries, and on the way home, we decided it was the perfect time for a concert. Our daughter would start with “Jesus Loves Me, ” and next do “Ole Mac Donald Had a Farm.”  She belted out the Song, (you can sing along)

Jesus Loves me this I Know,

For the Bible tells me so,

Little ones to Him belong,

Ole MacDonald had a Farm!

I must say that there was a moment of silence as we tried to process the words, then there was a burst of laughter.  All the words had fit perfectly with the tune.  She’s a Genius!

Do you step onto the stage of life every day striving for the perfect appearance and performing your best for love, acceptance, and approval of others?

There have been times when I have rushed ahead of God, making my own plans.  Trying to fit the Lord into my will and wants.  Only to realize that I messed up trying to impress God that I am worthy enough to be loved.  Wow, really?

God knows the secret longings of our hearts. He knows all about our unfulfilled desires and dreams, our feelings of loneliness and fears for the future. He alone knows our joy and pain, our successes, failures, and doubts. He knows everything about you, inside and out, past, present and future.

Although every life is different, and your circumstances are not the same as mine, you may have had some of the same feelings.

I have news for you,

CHRIST PAID A PRICE WE COULD NEVER PAY, TO GIVE US LIFE WE DIDN’T DESERVE.

I sometimes get in such a rush I forget that I can never work, buy or beg enough for God’s love.  He gives Love, life, and forgiveness freely if I ask.

Psalm 118:6-7b NLT

6. The Lord is for me so that I will have no fear.

What can mere people do to me?

7b. Yes the Lord is for me, He will help me.

Thank you, dear friends for spending your time with me, Have a wonderful weekend.

Do You find yourself running ahead of God sometimes, like me?

Smile, God Love You. Hugs to all.
