I Think I Missed A Letter ~ I Love Chocolate!

“I Think I Missed A Letter”

An Illinois man left the snow-filled streets of Chicago for a vacation in Florida. His wife was on a business trip and was planning to meet him there the next day. When he reached his hotel, he decided to send his wife a quick email.

Unfortunately, when typing her address, he missed one letter, and his note was directed instead to an elderly preacher’s wife whose husband had passed away only the day before.

When the grieving widow checked her email, she took one look at the monitor, let out a piercing scream, and fell to the floor in a dead faint.

At the sound, her family rushed into the room and saw this note on the screen:

Dearest Wife Just got checked in. Everything prepared for your arrival tomorrow. P.S. Sure is hot down here. Author unknown

Reflections:  I Love Chocolate!

I love Valentine’s Day, especially the chocolate, I think Chocolate makes everything better, don’t you? Have you ever noticed when you are feeling a little off, depressed, or just plain grumpy, chocolate helps immediately. Even if I’m feeling fat, Chocolate helps. Lol, What is that?

I remembered many years ago; I tried to wean myself of a secret chocolate habit. Attempting to be firm I would self-talk listing all the pros and cons of learning to control my sweet tooth. However once in a while, I would secretly make a whole recipe of fudge just for me, eating the entire batch out of the pot. It would never get to the pan and have time to set.

My husband would drive me crazy; he could have one piece of chocolate at a time and save the rest for weeks. While I would eat mine at one setting, and want some of his to share too.

Now after all these years he often brings us home some chocolate bars in a bag of groceries, and we both sit down and enjoy them. No guilt, no worries, just pure enjoyment of a special moment together.

When Forest Gump said,” Life is like a box of chocolates, and we never know what you’re going to get. No truer words were said.

We hit times of crises, and circumstances we don’t understand, that seems to be the world we live in these days. But through these time, we can stand firm knowing that we have a God, who loves, cares and protects us from the storms we face. I read this quote the other day that puts everything in perspective for me it says:

“We can endure life’s wrongs because we know that God will make all things right.”

What a relief, He is in Control!

We Win!

Thank you, dear friends for spending your time with me, Have a wonderful Valentine’s Day Wednesday. Hugs to all

My Old Memories ~ I fell and can’t get up!

My Old Memories

Two elderly people are living in a retirement home near Fareham, he was a widower and she a widow, had known each other for a number of years. One evening there was a community supper in the big arena in the Clubhouse. The two were at the same table, across from one another. As the meal went on, he took a few admiring glances at her and finally gathered the courage to ask her, ‘Will you marry me?’

After about six seconds of ‘careful consideration,’ she answered ‘Yes. Yes, I will!’
The meal ended and, with a few more pleasant exchanges, they went to their respective places. Next morning, he was troubled. ‘Did she say ‘yes’ or did she say ‘no’?’ He couldn’t remember.

Try as he might, he just could not recall. Not even a faint memory. With trepidation, he went to the telephone and called her. First, he explained that he didn’t remember as well as he used to.

Then he reviewed the lovely evening past. As he gained a little more courage, he inquired, ‘When I asked if you would marry me, did you say ‘ Yes’ or did you say ‘No’?’

He was delighted to hear her say, ‘Why, I said, ‘Yes, yes I will.’ and I meant it with all my heart.’

Then she continued, ‘And I am so glad that you called because I couldn’t remember who had asked me.’ Unknown author

I fell and can’t get up!

Late spring, my teenage grandson rode with me to town, we were in our truck. Although it had rained all night I decided to wear white pants to our family function. I needed to stop at Costco and get some prepared food items for our event.

Hurrying back to the truck and placing our food in the back seat, I grabbed the overhead handle to lift myself into the seat and lifting my 3-inch high heel foot into the cab I slipped.

Not wanting to let go of the overhead handles and getting my white pants muddy, I tried to get my other foot on the floor of the cab. I thought  It would give me a more firm foundation to lift myself up.

I did get my other foot in the truck, but couldn’t pull myself out of my predicament. At this point, my white pant bottom was the only thing dangling out the door 2 feet off the ground. As I hung on for dear life I was yelling at my grandson who was listening to his iPod with his earbuds in. He was in enjoying his music he didn’t even notice my state of affairs.

As I was trying to get my grandsons attention,  I was surprised by two firm hands on my bottom, and a man was shoving me up into the seat. I didn’t get a chance to thank him because he ran away. And my Grandson caught the action just as I was being shoved into the truck. How embarrassing, but the best part my pants were still white. Come to think of it I haven’t worn white pants since!

I think God has a sense of humor too; after all, He made us.  Have you ever stood naked in front of a mirror and quoted, Psalm 139: 14a I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” Personally, I have not been able to get past the fearful!

I have always been blonde, quirky and uncoordinated, so I have a lot of material to write about. God has blessed me with a sense of humor, laughter, and to see the funny side of situations.  I love that about God and his love, I believe he has a wonderful sense of humor too, after all, he made us!

Our confidence comes from knowing that God made us in his image, he knew what we would look like before we were ever born and loved us anyway. ©

Psalm 126:2 We were filled with laughter, and we sang for joy.

And the other nations said, “What amazing things the Lord has done for them.”

Thank you, dear friends, for spending your time with me.
Have a wonderful weekend.

Do you think God has a sense of humor?

Can I Give You A Smile?

Can I Give You A Smile?

Some days I find myself in a place of discouragement. Bewildered by the world we live in, with so many hurting people looking for hope, encouragement and a smile. My heart aches for all the families that have gone through the hurricanes the last few months and the massacre in Las Vegas last night.

Sometimes the way forward seems complicated and challenging, and I’m not even sure I have even enough energy to finish the tasks God had given me.

I have often heard,” Instruction does much, but encouragement is everything.” Many times a kind word of encouragement, a smile or a simple touch can lift a heart out of sadness, grief, exhaustion or despair.

An act of kindness encouraging others and lets them know you care about them, and they are not alone. It also gives us the opportunity to show God’s love as we touch the lives of others. Encouragement gives hope and inspires determination to keep moving forward when life gets tough, and we become weary of the struggles.

Many times I have asked God to encourage my heart with his love, compassion, and guidance. Asking Him to give me a new perspective and passion for the task He had given me.When I become tired, His promises and love lessons come just in time in sweet ways of encouragement from others. God is not finished with the dreams and goals He has placed in my heart, and he is not finished with me either.

Isaiah 40:31 NLV

But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.

LIFE can be tough, and the struggles of life and ministry can be harsh. With God’s encouragement, we can remember His promises and rely and lean on Him. The journey will be brighter for us and others as we stand together building one another up with encouragement.©

Happy Flying ~ The Plan

“Happy Flying”

A plane was taking off from Kennedy Airport. After it reached a comfortable cruising altitude, the captain made an announcement over the intercom, ‘Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. Welcome to Flight Number 293, nonstop from New York to Los Angeles. The weather ahead is good and, therefore, we should have a smooth and uneventful flight. Now sit back and relax… OH, MY GOSH!’

Silence followed, and after a few minutes, the captain came back on the intercom and said, ‘Ladies and Gentlemen, I am so sorry if I scared you earlier. While I was talking to you, the flight attendant accidentally spilled a cup of hot coffee in my lap. You should see the front of my pants!’

A passenger in Coach yelled, ‘That’s nothing. You should see the back of mine!’ Author unknown

Reflections: The Plan

Restlessness is characteristic of our generation today. In these days of confusion and turmoil from life’s activities, we hardly have time to enjoy our blessings. That has certainly been true of my life.

Some days in the throes of discouragement, I have doubted God’s concern and care for me. Especially when He has so many others to take care of besides me. Do you ever doubt God’s plan?

When life is hectic, we become preoccupied with ourselves, our circumstances and can soon forget about our friends, family, and God.

What a shame, God is the only one who can bring rest and peace in the midst of all the craziness.

Over the years, there have been hard lessons to learn, But God in his great love has shown me that the things I valued most, are not as important as the people in my life or my relationship with Him.

Especially, when faced with the fact there may not be any tomorrows left. It is funny how fast our priorities can change. Suddenly spending time with God and talking to him seems more important than all my busy-ness for him.

Jesus knows about all of the activity in our lives because he made us. He also knows that we need times of rest both—Physically and spiritually.

“Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give peace to you as the world gives.

Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid. ~ John 14:27

He is the only source for perfect peace and complete rest for our souls, especially at these busy times of the year. You are loved and special to Him. ©

Getting Some Music Lessons

Getting Some Music Lessons

A drummer tired of being ridiculed by his peers decided to learn how to play some “real” musical instruments.

He went to the music store, walked in, approached the store clerk and said, I’ll take that red trumpet over there and that accordion.”

The store clerk looked at him a bit funny, and replied, “Okay, you can have the  fire extinguisher, but the radiator’s got to stay.” Author unknown

Reflections:

I must confess I have been on a controlled eating and dieting plan for the last few month with disappointing results.  The exercise program I picked has me swinging and jumping to the beat of, “Country Heat.” Didn’t help much either. I’m sure if I did the routine every day like I was supposed to, I would be in better shape.

I received a wonderful Fitbit and am wearing it faithfully, only to find out I don’t walk enough (Really?) and my sleep patterns are off. Every night I give myself a scolding and feel guilty I haven’t done better. Who new 10,000 steps was the magic Number.  I thought I walked a lot every day????

I have been reflecting on my diet and exercise hysteria and how I am driving myself nuts, as well as everyone else. Is it insecurity, or the feeling of not measuring up? Who says what is beautiful, acceptable and lovely anyway?

With the constant barrage of the media, celebrities, and fashion magazines our self-esteem can erode fast.  I just read that a poll By Dr. Raj Persuad a Psychiatrist, said looking at magazines for 60 minutes lowers the self-esteem of young women by 80%.  Astonishing.

I started to wonder why I even buy magazines knowing the reality we see is the perfecting imagery of a Photoshop expert and illusions of technical imagery.  After all if they can make a one-hundred year old woman look 24 again, they can do anything!

All this stress and wanting perfection, I know it is only vanity. In my heart I wanted to feel acceptable and secure in how I looked.  Instead of being grateful, I get all caught up in the physical instead of relying on the one who knows me best. I forgot how much He loves, I am already special and perfect in His eyes.©

Genesis 1:27
So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

Do you find your getting discouraged too? What self talk do you do?
